Despite having lived in Belgium for 20 years and having acquired citizenship, I’ve never left Brussels. In the past year, I’ve visited Ghent, Bruges, Chimay, the Eau d’Heure lakes, and today, I added Leuven to the list. Here are my favorite shots!

Ghent remains my favorite (so much so that I went twice, and I’ll definitely go again) but I’m very happy to learn Leuven, which is so close, is also very beautiful.
I’m particularly excited as I’ve been thinking about pursuing a PhD after my Master’s, and since KUL is a great university, I’m thrilled to know it’s also in a beautiful city.
Also, from today onward, I will fiercely oppose the bullshit allegation I keep hearing in Brussels that Dutch people are cold and mean to outsiders. I smiled at people and they smiled back, everyone talked to me in English (granted, I didn’t even try French), and two passerbys around the KUL campus even said Hello. That might sound like not much but in my 20 years in Brussels, most people just dodge your eyes, let alone say hello. It was a really great trip!
Not even a picture of Leuven’s most popular tourist attraction, ‘De Nijl’? 🙁
Great shots. I hope you have many more travels planned in our great country!
Time to visit Brussels then
This baffels me, why wait 20 years? What explains this?
I met a lot of Belgians who had never been to Bruges. To me this almost beyond belief. I am not going to say anything about museums.
You have lived 20 years in Belgium and not once left Brussels? How is that even possible?
chimay is so random lol
