Washington is actively cooperating with its NATO partners to enable allies to purchase American weapons for Ukraine directly, in accordance with an agreement proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. In addition, Alliance members are discussing the possibility of providing Kyiv with long-range weapons. This was reported by U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, according to information from Euractiv.

Whitaker did not disclose details regarding the timing or types of weapons that might be sent, noting that this will be coordinated with the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also emphasized that existing U.S. resources will be taken into account.

“We are moving quickly to facilitate this and make it happen. Things are moving very fast.”

Discussing the possibility of providing Ukraine with long-range weapons to strike Russian territory, Whitaker noted that there are ongoing “discussions” among NATO allies on this topic.

On July 14, the U.S. and NATO signed an agreement that provides for the supply of American weapons to Ukraine at the expense of European countries. The Secretary General of the military-political bloc, Mark Rutte, stated that under this agreement Kyiv may receive a significant number of air defense systems, missiles, and ammunition.
