Brexit onslaught deepens as a third of all UK exporters to EU simply vanish due to red tape knockout: ‘Really worrying numbers’

> The number of UK businesses exporting goods to the EU fell 33 per cent to 18,357 in 2021, from 27,321 in 2020, according to new data from HMRC.
For perspective, that’s down from 34,000 in 2019.
The numbers appear to represent the number *only exporting*, and *only with the EU*. So nobody who also imports, or who trades with non-EU countries.
If you dig into the stats, the total number who are trading internationally has increased about 20%, and the number who are now only importing has gone up, but the totals trading with the EU are about the same. In other words, we’re still buying stuff from the EU at about the same level, but they’re not buying from us any more. Exports are also way down to non-EU countries.
I can’t handle all these sunlit uplands. So glad we effectively voted for economic sanctions on ourselves and restrict the ability to freely move and trade with the richest block in the world. Fucking moronic.
Thats what England voted for. Thats what they wanted for the UK. An isolated island nation rife with poverty, stark inequality and vanishing economic prospects. 👍 big thumbs up guys, fuckin genius move!
I thought there would be less red tape, don’t tell me that too was a lie.
First use of the week-
Nobody could have predicted this, absolutely nobody, out of nowhere it came. Total shock!
Thats exactly what brexits was for – exiting the club. This is not its end form yet. UK must try to join to the EEA to minimise the damage.
Brexiteers spin was that the EU needed us more than we needed them. Hence we can exit from EU rules, policies, migration and still have free trade. It was a delusion. Similar as Putin’s ideology that negated facts for the Ukrainian invasion.
The Brexit spin was underpinned by the wealthy. The lingo used is eerily similar to Putin’s and the Republican Party.
And the BBC are showing the pictures of the lorry queues but not saying that it’s Brexit. Weird that.
Jesus christ the whining here. It’s a democracy…. deal with it. The vote went through and that’s that.
We all knew what they were voting for
They apparently did, but didn’t
If we could take control of our national media so that people who cant tell the difference from obvious lies and fact can not fuck us with their stupidity, that would be great.
We really cant sit back and wait for them to get sharper any more. They believe any bus they see despite people pointing out the obvious and its fucking the entire nation. They should know better, yes. But we also shouldnt expect to have the BBC fronting whatever bullshit lie they have been told to push this week (and what they have bee paid to not cover / stop talking about).
Why is this a bad thing? This is what we voted for.
A country that is mauling itself to death. Desperate to leave but can’t because of something I didn’t vote for. Were things really so bad before Brexit??
This is all a literal dystopian nightmare.
Okay so when do we actually do anything about it?
I’m really keen to see the country burn at this point.
How the hell did people not see this one coming is beyond me. The next thing you’ll be reading about is how the younger generation is leaving the UK to live in European for better prospects and more affordable housing. Everyone who voted for this shit show deserves not to have their backsides wiped in old age because no ones going to be around to do it for you.
Weird, you’d think the BBC would feature this on their TV news.
The only sensible option for me at this point is for 50whateveritwas% of the population to line up and offer apology to the ones who didn’t vote for economic suicide and the ridicule of the wider world.
Almost no one who voted brexit cares. It was a matter of principle.
How can numbers be “really worrying” when they are expected? Surely that should be somewhat reassuring?
Whatever you do don’t talk about the ~~war~~ Brexit – a big fuckup, thanks Bozo
I ordered something on Amazon the other week, I’m in the Netherlands. Apparently it was shipped from the UK (had no way of knowing this so Amazon will refund) and on an order total of €55 I had to pay €18 import duties. Last time I will ever order anything from the UK. I will triple check next time.
What happened to all the Brexit loving ‘ex-pats’, did they move back to the UK?
Something something project fear something.
More like ‘we told you so’
Man, I’m so fucking glad we made it so much harder to trade with our next-door neighbours.
Just how many times can we call Brexit voters fucking idiots?
Not enough. It will never be enough.
Yis yis Brexit bad remove it so I can come more easily
At least we got a sort of blue passport that looks more black than blue
Will forever be embarrassed to be British about this
