Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili is publishing a comparison of the economic growth of Georgia and Moldova in 2021-2024, saying that Moldova has been in severe economic stagnation since the start of the war, while Georgia is the leader in economic growth among European countries.

According to him, these figures are against the background of “Moldova being granted candidacy and getting negotiations opened”.

Georgia, on the other hand, according to him, “acted in national interests”.

“These tables provide a comparison of the economic growth of Georgia and Moldova in 2021-2024.

Despite the fact that in 2021, Moldova – with an economic growth of 13.9% – emerged from the economic recession caused by Covid even stronger than us, it has been in severe economic stagnation since the war began, with indicators below zero and close to zero.

Despite the fact that in 2021 Georgia’s budget was $2.4 billion more than Moldova’s, in 2025 our budget will exceed Moldova’s by $4.8 billion, that is, we have doubled the difference between our budgets in five years.

All this while Moldova has been granted candidacy, opened negotiations, promised heavenly manna, and they even want to set Moldova as an example of development, while we are the object of unjust attacks and Soviet-style threats.

So what happened? What did we do or not do, as a result of which, in terms of economic growth, we are the leader compared to all European countries, while Moldova is in severe economic stagnation?

The answer is clear, we acted in the national interests of Georgia, and not in accordance with the instructions of Brussels, which if we had followed, we would have become an economically and physically ruined country today.

This history should be a lesson for everyone, to understand that no one will put the interests of our country above their own. We learned this lesson when Kiev asked us to officially send fighters; we learned this lesson when Brussels asked us to close the border with Russia; we learn this lesson when they say in beautiful words that Ukraine is the front line of the European Union, but they do not want to shed their own blood on that front,”- writes Papuashvili.
