  1. New reports have claimed the BBC sacked John Torode after he allegedly ‘used the N-word twice while singing along to a Kanye West song’.

The MasterChef host, 59, was reportedly singing the rapper’s hit Gold Digger when he was allegedly ‘caught using the racist term during after work drinks six or seven years ago’.

  2. This is just more evidence that the BBC didn’t want him back.

If this was regular employment it would be unfair dismissal.

  3. It’s literally the words of the song?

Everyone that ever did “Fairytale of New York” on Kareoke is sweating right about now.

  4. But the N word is literally in every chorus of the song. How about the person who played the song?

I have no particular interest in Torode but hope he sues the BBC for millions and wins. I then hope that the executives behind this stupid decision are sacked.

  5. Lmao. That’s it? I’m probably described as a member of the lefty loony snowflake communist wokerati party and even I think this is bullshit.

Feels like a massive overaction from the BBC so they can say “see we do take this sort of thing seriously” but they’ve picked the absolute most bat shit insane thing to do it over.

  6. If this is true it’s a complete hatchet job on Torode, shameful witch hunt. I hope they get to the bottom of this.

  7. Likely they wanted to get rid of him due to people associating him with Wallace and this was a convenient reason.

  8. I really hope that we can find our way back to a world where we understand that words are simply that, just words, and that words are not inherently racist.

Try explaining what the “N word” is to a child without using the word itself.

Again, it isn’t the word that is racist, what can make a word racist is two things:
1 – The context in which it is used
2 – The intent of the person using the word.

So in the example above of a person educating a child about the word, the context is clear, the word must be used in order to educate, and the intent is clearly not to spread hatred of people either.

Singing a song is just that, singing a song, and the intent of singing such a song is typicaly in celebration of said song on account of going to the trouble of learning the lyrics and actually performing it. This is not spreading hatred or any kind of dislike.

See, if the context was that he learnt the lyrics and then performed the song in blackface, then i feel like we would be having a very different conversation as the context would give a clear indication of his intent.

We really need to stop treating the use of words like they come with a bunch of unheard and unseen negative context and intent, and instead treat them as simply words and let the context, intent or the person themself let us know whether we should be outraged or not.

This isn’t Voldemort – There are clear non-racist use cases for all words, so let’s stop pretending like every use of the word can only ever be the worse possible use of it.

There is already enough hate in the world.

  9. So someone leaks yesterday that he used the N word without mentioning this very important context. Definitely someone has it in for him

  10. If that’s true it’s fecking ridiculous that he’s been sacked

  11. Wait, what? Haha. Does no one use context and critical thinking anymore?

  12. Ridiculous. Especially as it happened years ago.

    – insert Sean Dyche meme –

  13. I knew it was gonna be something stupid. They only did this because they wanted him gone, most likely to to lower their budget.

  14. Be a giant pedo – okay

Singing a song with the n word in when you’re not even at work – sacked

    Great work BBC.

  15. He should launch an ironic rap career… Off the back of this happening he would get fairly big, then he could refuse BBC to broadcast any of his content that they’ll desperately want

  16. It is actually ridiculous – my god, this is a true nothing burger…

  17. You could fix the title and say he was fired for singing along to a Kanye west song. Would make more sense than singing the N word along with a song 🤦‍♂️

  18. It’s literally a word in the chorus of the song, it’s in there twice per chorus so he didn’t get a full rendition done. BBC being ridiculous so they can say to certain influential voices that they “take these things very seriously”

So… who here has ever sang “Fairytale of New York” at Christmas?

  19. I think its just an excuse to get rid of them altogether so they can put “ younger “ people in..

  20. Nice of them to leave out this detail in their article.
