An Airbnb host says one of her guests took one look at a Trump flag in the yard and left without even unpacking.

The host, who runs the TikTok account @outskirtsofheavenfarm, explained that the woman had booked a stay at her animal rescue and sanctuary but canceled almost immediately after arriving. The reason, she said, was political.
âShe got in her car, drove away, and left,â the host said in the clip, which has now been viewed over 1.5 million times. âThere was no way she could stay somewhere like this,â the guest allegedly told her after spotting a flag supporting President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
The videoâs caption read, âWe worked all day preparing for our farm Airbnb guest only for her to get here and leave,â while the text overlay bluntly stated: âAirbnb guest cancels in first 5 minutes.â
The host didnât hide her frustration, saying sheâd spent the entire day prepping the space, only for the trip to unravel before it even began.
Airbnb host defends signageÂ
In the comments section, @outskirtsofheavenfarm pushed back at critics and defended the flag.
She noted that her farm is in North Carolina, a state that voted for Trump in both 2020 and 2024, and said she was surprised the guest would be so bothered. âIf I went somewhere and there were Biden signs, I wouldnât care,â she wrote. âSo crazy to me.â
She added that people âneed to just calm downâ and asked, âWho cares about a sign?â
The host also clarified that the Trump-Vance flag isnât even on the Airbnb building itself and said listing photos make its presence clear. In another comment, she suggested the guest wouldnât be getting a refund.
UPDATE: The host provided The Daily Dot with the listing, confirming the Trump/Vance sign is in the listing photos, and the following statement.
âShe did not get a refund. She canceled 5 minutes after checking in. We spent all day getting the farm ready for guests. We just started this new farm Airbnb experience. Itâs our private farm. We wanted people to come here and enjoy the beauty. The sign is on my momâs main house. Itâs a small flag. I forgot it was even there. Anyways, we spent all day trying to make the farm special for their arrival. Had the mini goats out. Mini pig. Wanting to greet them and everything. Then, after 5 minutes of being here, she said, âThis place is beautiful, but I cannot stay somewhere where someone supports Trump.â And got in her car and left.â
She added, âIf one sign in a rural yard shakes your sense of justice more than the kindness of the people living there, it might be time to reflect on what tolerance really means. We donât ask guests to agree with usâonly to respect the space, the animals, and each other. Thatâs what true inclusivity looks like. ALSO, If your version of tolerance ends where someone elseâs opinion begins, maybe the problem isnât the signâitâs the mirror.â

Though this wasnât the same situation, Trumpâs name has come up in Airbnb controversies before. Back in 2017, shortly after Trumpâs first election, an Asian American woman named Dyne Suh said her reservation was canceled by a host who made racist remarks.
Suh had booked a cabin in Big Bear, California, and confirmed with the host that she could bring two extra friends. But when she messaged again shortly before arrival to double-check, the host accused her of being a âcon artistâ and canceled.
âI wouldnât rent to u if u were the last person on earth,â the host reportedly wrote. âOne word says it all. Asian.â
Suh pulled over during a snowstorm to regroup and ended up speaking with a KTLA news crew about the ordeal. She later shared the story in a tearful Facebook post and confirmed she and her friends eventually found shelter.
Airbnb permanently removed the host from its platform and called the behavior âabhorrent and unacceptable,â reiterating its non-discrimination policy.

While the guest hasnât spoken publicly, the implication in the hostâs video was clear, and TikTok commenters had plenty to say. Some defended the womanâs decision to leave, saying she had every right to choose accommodations that aligned with her values.
âYou chose to put your values in full view,â one viewer told the host. âSo did she.â
âItâs about morals and character,â another added. âShe stood on hers.â
âYouâre free to make your own decisions, but not free from the consequences of those decisions,â said a third.
Others who said they wouldâve done the same chimed in too.
âI would not feel safe there, either,â one woman wrote.
âHope she mentions it in her review, because I would also want to know beforehand,â another added.Â
âI would cancel, too,â a third said. âThat is a hate sign.â
But not everyone agreed. Some called the reaction over the top.
âYou dodged a bullet, girlfriend,â one TikTok user told the host.
âPeople are so triggered by the dumbest stuff,â another wrote. âI mean, itâs a sign.â
@outskirtsofheavenfarm echoed that sentiment, replying, âTotally agree!!! And I forgot it was even there. Been there for so long!!â
