I’m not comfortable with surrogacy personally tbh, but I feel RTE is burying the lede somewhat in this story – Keogan’s ire appears to be reserved for gay dads, which makes sense, as she thinks gay people are trying to stage some sort of world takeover, and from what I can tell she was asked to apologise for her personal attitude to an individual speaker.
Is there context for this or is she as much a gobshite as she comes across?
>Ms Keogan told committee witness Gearoid Kenny Moore, who, with his husband, had twins through surrogacy, that he was “extremely lucky to be here today”.
Surrogacy is largely exploitation.
Why is she bringing up the mother and baby home scandal?? Does she not realise that the surrogate isn’t the natural mother and will have none of the child’s genetics?
Struggling to see the issue with what she said here. She’s entirely correct that surrogacy is ethically highly problematic, and even the altruistic kind is extremely difficult to manage. I am gay but like…it’s completely true that not everyone has a right to have a child because if you have a right, someone else is obligated to *provide* you that child, particularly where this is a question of gestating and birthing a child and not just a sperm donation. I would like better regulation of surrogacy in Ireland but frankly…I’m slightly horrified that she was thrown out for expressing very well established ethical and feminist concerns about surrogacy. The group didn’t have to agree with her but suspending the whole thing seems melodramatic and censorious.

Sharon “[we should be microchipping special needs children](https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/election-2020/candidate-defends-post-on-microchipping-special-needs-children-38909147.html)” Keoghan. Nice lady.
Keoghan is a lunatic.
How the hell is she a senator?

A good thread on what kind of person Keogan is

Am I missing an implication here or what?
