I laughed aloud at this part. This is exactly how things work in Turkey. And I’m not surprised everyone in Turkey cut concact with him. Friendships don’t save you from jail (unless it’s with someone in the inner government) and everyone tries to live their lives ultimately.
Author seems a bit naive at times but that’s how most Westerners are like I guess. Authoritarian countries jail people on fabricated charges. This is not some surprising grand discovery. Be careful of what you say and how you act in countries like Turkey.
