A former royal member of staff has revealed the top three smartest royals within the Firm. Members of the Royal Family are expected to have vast knowledge on various subjects, and several of them also speak different languages.
King Charles is known to speak four languages fluently – English, Welsh, French and German. But despite this, the monarch is still not smartest royal within the Firm, according to an ex-royal staffer.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked for the King from 2004 until 2011 said that Queen Elizabeth II was the smartest royal he knew, closely followed by her son, King Charles, and another beloved royal, completing the top three.
Speaking to online learning platform Study Dog, Mr Harrold said: “The smartest in my mind would have been Queen Elizabeth II, and the reason I say that is not just intelligence; she was witty, ruled a country for over 70 years, and knew about sports.”
He added: “Right behind her, I would say the King because he speaks several languages, but he is also very intelligent with numbers, and his command of the English language is extraordinary.
“He’s super intelligent, so if you’re talking about the royals now, he’d be top of that pile without any question. But I would also put Princess Anne up there; she is a knowledgeable lady.”
Asked about whether it would be frowned upon if the younger royals don’t go into higher education, Mr Harrold said that it would not be the case.
He explained: “I don’t think it would [be frowned upon] these days. We may find that George, Charlotte, and Louis might not all go to university. They may go straight to somewhere like Sandhurst.
“In particular, George, as it is seen as vital for future kings to have had some sort of military training, so you can guarantee that George, whether he likes it or not, will have to go through that military training.
“Both William and Charles had military training. You’re the commanding chief of the Armed Forces, so you’ve got to know the profession. However, there might not be so much pressure when it comes to George; only time will tell. “
