The authorities in Chisinau have declared that they fully support the United Kingdom’s decision to sanction three institutions subordinate to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Russian Federation and 18 Russian officers, involved in a large-scale cyber campaign, which also targeted Moldova. The comment was made public by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the British Government’s announcement regarding the sanctions, reports IPN.
According to Moldovan authorities, the activities of the GRU carried out between the years 2015 and 2025 represent a direct threat to European security and the international order based on rules.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that Moldova has been targeted by cyber attacks, disinformation campaigns, and other hostile actions, intended to undermine democratic institutions.
“We condemn these actions and appeal to all states to respect international law and adhere to the UN framework, for responsible behavior of states in cyberspace,” is stated in the official position of the ministry.
Moreover, Moldova expresses its solidarity with Ukraine, in the face of Russian military aggression, and reaffirms its commitment to strengthen cyber resilience alongside international partners.
