UK travel fanatics who are searching for off the beaten track experiences and immersive cultural adventures are in for an exciting surprise. As beginning of April 2020 British Airways has its new direct connecting flights from London Gatwick Airport to Graz in Austria and Rabat in Morocco on sale. Flown through the airline’s BA Euroflyer subsidiary, these flights offer bargain-basement fares from £60. Those traveling won’t get to experience these curious travel spots just yet — the flights won’t start running until November 2025.
BA Euroflyer Expands Network
BA Euroflyer’s managing director,Karen Hilton, said: “We are thrilled to open up these destinations to the wider public and provide unparalleled new experiences for our travellers. Graz will be the only direct service from the Austrian city to London, offering more choice for business travellers, holidaymakers and those visiting friends and family, Hilton noted.
Equally, Rabat presents a new and interesting destination from which UK travelers can head south in search of both warmth and culture during the winter. As you can always enjoy sunshine throughout the year, Rabat is perfect if you want to travel off-season without having to suffer through a long flight.
Graz, Austria: An Unfamiliar Destination Waiting to be Explored
Less known to international tourists than its Austrian siblings, Vienna and Salzburg, Graz offers a genuinely local travel experience. The city of Styria, Graz, is a mix of medieval whimsy and dynamic modern life. This is a UNESCO world heritage site, with a historical centre making up of Gothic & Renaissance and Baroque building beauties.
Schlossberg mountain is home to that most recognizable of all Graz landmarks-the clock tower. They are rewarded at this spot with breathtaking panoramic views over the red-tiled rooftops and many historic attractions. What’s more, Graz’s main square, Hauptplatz, is home to the bustle of local markets with their range of souvenir items, handcrafted gifts and artisan products – the spot for tourists seeking to experience the real stuff.
Another impressive sight listed by travel pundits (among them, Lonely Planet) is the Mausoleum of Ferdinand II by Graz Cathedral. One of the city’s architectural signature; it took shape early seventeenth century—its stunning domes glisten turquoise green.
From 21 November 2025, BA will fly three times a week to Graz on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with a quick journey time to the city in just two hours and twenty minutes – making it convenient for weekend getaways and short business trips.
Rabat, Morocco: A Mix of History and Very Modern Cool
As the capital of Morocco, Rabat gets much less visitors than riotous Marrakech. This lower-profile status affords Rabat a laid-back vibe where history and modern amenities intersect. A UNESCO World Heritage City, Rabat is an incredible amalgamation of ancient fortress, beautiful garden, and contemporary city planning.
A popular stop in Rabat is the 12th-century Kasbah des Oudaias. It was originally a Fortress to defend the city, but now it’s a picturesque neighborhood of little artisan shops, cafes, and winding streets that remind you of the Mediterranean. Weekend tourists can enjoy strolls, shop for rare crafts and soak up the historic atmosphere.
Rabat also has some things to offer in terms of ecology: there are gardens in the city, which include The Botanical Test Garden and The Exotic Gardens of Bouknadel. The city has a long coastline on the Atlantic Ocean that includes a set of beautiful beaches and promenades that reach from the north of the city (which borders Kenitra) to the south of the city (which borders Casablanca), all about a distance of 100 km of seashore.
BA will be flying direct to Rabat from November 5 2025, twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays, with handy connections for short breaks or longer stays.
Effect On Tourism And Business Travel
A number of remote areas will be brought into greater focus with the addition of these new routes by British Airways and is expected to encourage growth in these economies. Graz and Rabat should see a larger number of tourists, which will help hotel, restaurant and cultural business.
This will also make it easier for business people to reach these cities, kicking off new chances to trade, invest and network between the UK, Austria and Morocco.
