Correction, Russia will not win. But letting Ukraine lose so many people and so much territory is a loss for Ukraine and even for the west. Wished our leaders would understand that.
That sounds like win to me?
Russia gave up after 10 years in Afghanistan. They’ll give up in Ukraine, too.
I wonder if he even hears what he says… or if that *was the point*.
Putin and Xi would be unlikely to live much more than 20% of that.
This is a stupid arguement used all too often, trying to extrapolate current rates of advance far into the future. The fact is, that at some point if critical population centers or territory of Ukraine are lost, the rate of Russian advances may suddenly and dramatically increase. Statements like these only tend to reinforce a sense of complacency and justify a lack of urgent action and sacrifice to support Ukraine.
In any meaningful scenario, Russia lost in 2022 when the bear was found to be made out of papier-mâché. You’re not coming back from that and that’s before you have 1M of the most capable people leave the country and 1M dead or wounded (which is a heart rending tragedy).
Add to this a strengthened Nato, a resurgent Europe and an accelerating flight from oil and gas and I think we can say it’s a total loss in any strategic sense.
In case someone want’s to read the full quote https://global.espreso.tv/world-news-russia-would-need-70-years-to-capture-ukraine-at-this-pace-sikorski
Yeah, countries collapse long before the entire country has been conquered. On the bright side, that also applies to Russia.
