Sarah Everard: Met Police loses appeal over vigil

  1. Honestly, I think it’s shameful they even apealed this. They should have taken the L and moved on.

  2. >The judges described some of the Met’s proposed grounds of appeal as “hopeless attempts to challenge reasoned factual conclusions”, while others involved “a misreading of one passage of the judgment, ignoring the overall context”.

They clearly had no argument and just wanted to waste taxpayer money on being cunts.

  3. This is shockingly bad reporting by the BBC.

The Met have not “lost an appeal”. There has not yet been any appeal. They had asked the court (that is, the court which gave the original judgment) for permission to appeal. That court has said no. They can now ask the Court of Appeal.

The original judgment is [*Leigh v The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis*](https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Admin/2022/527.html) [2022] EWHC 527 (Admin).

  4. Nothing says patriarchy and misogynistic r*pe culture quite like responding to a peaceful gathering of mourners with unfettered police brutality. We never saw any other mid-lockdown protests met with anywhere near as much hostility as the Sarah Everard vigil.

This is why we need feminism.
