Prince Harry and Meghan Markle retained their HRH titles when they resigned from their royal duties in 2020, but as part of the deal, they aren’t allowed to use them since they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.
If the Sussexes were to return to the fold, which there’s been a lot of chatter about, it wouldn’t be just King Charles who signed off on it, it would also be Prince William, and the folks at Palace Confidential discussed how likely this is.
According to Richard Eden, Daily Mail Diary Editor, it is very unlikely, with him saying: “I mean, think about it, Prince William would have to be onboard with welcoming them back, and, I think that trust is gone, and trust is so important.”

It’s not just the Royal Family, it’s the public, who also play a role in this, and according to Eden, the trust has been broken.
Richard explained: “Remember with the Royal Family, it’s tricky, it’s a family, and it’s an institution, so it’s unique in public life like that, and that, inevitably, relies on trust, doesn’t it?”
Rebecca English, the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor, chimed in, claiming Harry doesn’t want to return to the fold, which he has spoken about openly.
In a recent interview, he said he misses his family, but that doesn’t mean he wants to return to the monarchy in an official capacity, which English elaborated on.
Harry and Meghan still have their HRH titles
Rebecca said: “I just don’t think Harry wants to come back, into the institution, the monarchy, because he finds it, very stifling.”
“He has this lovely, carefree life in California, why would he want to come back to that? Even on a part-time basis.”
“He has made it very clear that that is something he doesn’t ever want to do again.”
Why aren’t Harry and Meghan allowed to use HRH?
Harry and Meghan are no longer allowed to use HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles because they stepped back from being working members of the British Royal Family in early 2020.
Rebecca is talking about now, and even says to reminder her of this conversation in ten years, as things can change, and if they do, and Harry does decide to reclaim his royal duties, that would in fact reinstate his HRH title.
She explained: “If it were to happen, they would get their HRH titles back, I’m sure. They’re only not allowed to use them because they are no longer working members of the Royal Family and are pursuing commercial careers.”
What does HRH stand for?
HRH stands for His/Her Royal Highness.
It is a style or honorific used before the names of certain members of royal families, especially in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms.
There has been little talk of Meghan returning to royal life in an official capacity, she was pretty new to it, and only lasted two years as a working royal, meanwhile, Harry was born into the Royal Family and grew up a royal and it’s all he knows.
