Italy, the country of globally recognized luxury brands, also represents a market for clothing products manufactured in the Republic of Moldova. Last year, exports to Italy were particularly focused on men’s coats and jackets, worth over 30 million dollars. Also, sweaters, pullovers and cardigans were exported, valued at 25 million dollars, while women’s coats and jackets totaled 17.8 million dollars. Exports of women’s suits and tailoring reached 14.5 million dollars, reports IPN, quoting the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization.

According to a statement from the ministry, Italy is the third most important economic partner of the Republic of Moldova within the European Union. In 2024, the total value of trade exchanges between the two countries exceeded 716 million dollars. Trade relations cover a wide range of products, from textiles and clothing to industrial goods.

In addition to clothing items, the Republic of Moldova also exported sunflower oil, wheat, meslin, and electrical cables and wires to Italy. In turn, Italy supplied the Moldovan market with pharmaceuticals, coffee, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, processed hides, and cables.

“This positive dynamic reflects the strengthening of economic ties between our countries and reaffirms the potential of the Republic of Moldova to supply competitive products to the European market,” the institution’s statement reads.

In the Republic of Moldova, there are 1141 enterprises with Italian capital, with investments in social capital amounting to approximately 1.8 billion lei. In terms of invested capital value, Italy ranks fourth among the main investors in the Republic of Moldova at a global level.
