“Will Russia’s War End Irish Neutrality?” Article from Foreign Policy.

  1. You know for a country that is (no offence) militarily irrelevant, there seems to be a hell of a push for this in certain circles lately.

  2. The Left are panicking now that Russia has been shown up to the monster it is – it has never been clear who we have been “neutral” between, and that’s particularly relevant during this appalling war of Russian aggression. The high point of this neutrality nonsense was the mad “triple lock” policy where we gave a veto on our foreign policy to countries like Russia and China, and hopefully that mistake will be the first thing to be rolled back.

I don’t expect Irish fighter jets to be flying off an aircraft carrier anytime soon, but hopefully we will be able to have a more mature debate in future about where our interests lie and what we should be contributing to defending those interests.

  3. Sure. Lets spend billions on pointless weapons so we can be a poor also-run and also not be able to afford the social care the population needs.

  4. Based on the responses, it’s clear a lot of people didn’t read the article past the title and assume it’s some sort of anti Irish neutrality piece.

Foreign Policy is an international affairs publication so its aim is to explain Irish neutrality to a global audience and highlight Ireland’s current debate with what exactly it means by neutrality.

At no point does it advocate for an end to Irish neutrality or call for Ireland to join NATO (it explicitly highlights Irish public support for neutrality and against joining NATO).
