German engines powering China’s warships: EU arms ban torpedoed by dual-use tech

  1. So MTU weren’t breaking any laws by exporting these engine components and weren’t in breach of the ban, some people just think it should be illegal. That’s a perfectly valid position to hold if you want to make that argument, but in the mean time “Company exports equipment legally” isn’t much of a news headline.

  2. Well the UK has had an arms embargo on China since 1989 I believe

heck the USA and USSR had to talk the UK out of selling 200 Hawker-Siddeley Harriers to China in the Cold War during the 1970s

The deal almost went through cause British aircraft salesman were good ironically the deal died because of the Chinese invading Vietnam killed it

although I have wonder how different things might have been if the 200 Harriers had been sold to China

  3. I love how Germany pretends to be a ‚good rational country’ who reprimends everyone around and yet keeps doing scummy deals with Russia and China all the fucking time.

  4. What has this to do with the German state or Germany? A multi-national corporation which happens to have its headquater in Germany sells ship engines on the global market. And a Chinese shipyard buys those ship engines on the global market and puts those into military ships which they sell to the Chinese Navy. You know what this shipyards also uses? Screws from Japan, windowglas from France and rubber sealings from Australia. And most likely steel from India.

This whole article is just silly.
