War in Ukraine sparks surge in food stockpiling

  1. I think there’s been a little run on toilet rolls too if my experience at the supermarket yesterday was anything to go by. Very low stock levels on the shelves or in the bulk buy section.

  2. I lost all faith in the British public’s common sense when I saw people fighting over cheese in Tesco and drivers filling up water bottles with fuel last year. I can safely say the ‘blitz mentality’ has well and truly been lost.

I tend to find, although it may very well be due to the war, companies are making efforts to deliberately under deliver to drum up demand to then increase prices under the illusion of ‘logistics’.

  3. * All newspapers: Panic now! You must panic now! Consume and panic!
    * Also all newspapers: Why is everyone panicking?
    * Still in all newspapers (climate section): *Tumbleweeds*

  4. This 100% bullshit.

Even if people are stocking up, it’s because of the the heating or eating situation not the war.

But they aren’t, this is completely made up.

  5. I’ve been saying for years that, if you are in the fortunate situation to be able to afford it, you should maintain a reasonable stockpile of tinned goods and supplies, so that if there is a shortage you can hold back, rely on your stockpile and let the poor buggers who can’t afford to hold surplus to get what they need.

I have kept an average of 3 months supply of rice, pasta, and tinned goods on constant rotation for ten years now. It’s not at mormon level, but at least I’m not part of the problem. Clearly people have learned nothing from lockdown.
