A local business aims to get more people out on the Truckee River with a new float experience.
Float Reno offers self-guided floats down the Truckee River; they provide the tubes, the transport, and the last-minute gear.
“We have a beautiful river in our backyard. Let’s take advantage of it and enjoy this summer,” says Rajeev Mishra, the founder and owner.
Float Reno started offering its services over the Fourth of July weekend as a way to make river floating more accessible for people who’ve never done it before.
Visitors check in at Idlewild Park near the baseball fields, then take a shuttle to the release station near the Tom Cooke Trailhead at Mayberry Park.
The best part? Mishra says all you have to do is show up and they’ll provide the gear.
“You get your tube, you get your life jacket, you get a helmet, you get a paddle, you get an app that helps navigate you through the river,” Mishra says.
The float ends back at Idlewild, so you can get right in your car after the float.
While this experience is aimed at river newbies, Float Reno also has a package for experienced floaters.
“So now we have two options,” Mishra says, “All-inclusive, and one for those that have their tube already and want to take advantage of the convenience and all the other services we offer.”
Even out-of-town visitors are enjoying the Truckee.
The NorCal youth baseball team is visiting Reno for a tournament and floated down the river after their games. One player says having this experience is really cool, especially for locals who live nearby.
“It’s like a cool experience to have, just like down the street from your house, if like you live around the corner,” says Josh Powell.
Another player says he’s excited to float out on a beautiful river.
“It looks like they got things set up pretty well around here,” says Adam Saouaf, “It’s a beautiful river. You know, it’s a beautiful day. I’m just excited to get out there.”
Float Reno will continue to offer their self-guided floats every weekend for the rest of the summer.
