One Blackwater operator survived but gets executed later on in the video which I had to cut due to the rules of this subreddit. Sorry if this has been posted here before, I typed all the keywords into the search bar and couldn't find the video

  1. Where’d you find the video?

Also I recognize the beginning of the music at 11 seconds in, anyone know if it was part of a montage?

  2. The cameraman should have been in that helicopter too

  3. I’ll feel sorry for soldiers that die, but mercenaries?
    Nah. Fuck em.

  4. Ah classic combat footage. 3-6 frames of something on fire, lots of sky, and many, many frames of the ground.

  5. >ogrish

    That’s a name I haven’t seen in a long time

  6. Good. Fuck Blackwater. Dont forget, they are now known as Academi. Also don’t forget, Erik Prince, the founder, is brother of Betsy Devos.

  7. Good. No sympathy for the PMCs. They could’ve easily been home with their families or doing something good with their lives, but they chose go to a foreign country to commit war crimes. It’s a shame that soldiers got KIA; should’ve been all of these guys instead

  8. I’m not going to defend blackwater, they were terrible. But they were recruiting heavily when I was nearing the end of my service and I knew a couple of guys who went to work for them. They had a really good pitch depending on your situation: it could be either come do cool shit with less red tape or come do the job you’re doing now and make a lot more money and that sounded good to a bunch of guys.

Of course they downplayed the negatives. I remember a moment when it dawned on me that all the contractor casualties weren’t being reported by government or the media so the public didn’t realize just how high the casualty count in Iraq really was. I also read some terrible stories about these private companies refusing to pay when their employees were injured and had hospital bills in the six figures.

Then there were the third country nationals, non-US citizens being employed to support the war effort. Truly no one gave a flying fuck about them and the many injuries and deaths they suffered.

War is awful but it’s worse when it’s privatized.

  9. You have a link to the full video? Never heard of this incident.

  10. The title is a bit “odd”. How can they be “insurgents” if Blackwater was invading Iraq in a basically illegal war?

  11. I know a guy who was a sniper for Blackwater. The stories he would tell us were crazy.

  12. Title is false. Video was recorded on April 21, 2005, not 2008. It was a Bulgarian Mi-8 with eleven passengers (six Americans, three Bulgarians, two Fijians). The Americans were working for Blackwater but were not operators as in soldiers but were just civilian contractors. I believe the only armed people on the helicopter were the two Fijians who were working as guards. The “one Blackwater operator survived but gets executed” was an unarmed Bulgarian pilot that got executed. It’s pretty well documented.

  13. Can’t show the execution yet there have been TONS of literal executions in this sub. Um ok.
