“people who used to donate to food banks are now needing to access help themselves”. This right here tells the whole story.
Do local authorities put any resources towards food banks? I don’t think they do, correct me if I am wrong. The recent increases in council tax is unwelcome but I would be less miffed if some of the funds went to help increase the capacity and reach of local food banks to help those truly in need.
Maybe even setup social enterprise with very low cost food, donated by supermarkets and businesses that can only be accessed by those that are means tested and truly need it.
Funny because this is the kind of picture people paint in their minds when they hear “communism”. Yet capitalism has brought us here… 🤷♂️
