Portobello / Richmond Row pedestrianised this weekend

  1. This leaflet landed in the door as surprise last night. None of our local councillors have asked for this, nor have the residents committee. The local garda hadn’t even heard about it. I’m all for more open spaces in Dublin but for fuck sake at least signal there will be a management plan in place for this (ie toilets, clean up) this feels like a knee jerk reaction to handing portobello plaza over to the hotel development.

  2. That little bit of road seems pretty pointless to me. Its obviously somewhat convenient for drivers who are going to portobello, but not the end of the world if it’s gone.

  3. Can’t wait for the square to be returned to the public realm and for the hotel security to start intimidating people using the square, calling the police and probably assaulting people having a skate, or drinking a few cans after work. Then it will become what it was intended to be, a lifeless waste of space. Genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if it was sold to the hotel in 10 years to develop an outdoor dining area for paying customers only.
