Mexico’s imports of U.S. natural gas via pipeline are poised to reach new heights this year and next, though previous demand growth forecasts may have been overly bullish, according to Wood Mackenzie analysts.

Pipeline flows to Mexico have averaged record highs each month this year, said the consultancy’s Ricardo Falcón, research manager, during a recent webinar.

Power burns have been “the main pace setter,” representing about two-thirds to 70% of Mexico’s demand for U.S. natural gas, Falcón said.
