In the competition for the position of CEO of the Latvian airline airBaltic, four out of eight candidates will be promoted to the third round, said Minister of Transport Atis Švinka (Progressives) in an interview on Latvian Radio on 22 July.
The minister said that the second round of the competition closed on Monday, 21 July, and the third round will take place in early August.
40 applications from 30 countries were received for the airBaltic CEO position, while eight candidates were shortlisted for the second round.
Švinka also said that the next CEO would definitely have a competitive salary in the industry, but it would be lower than that of the previous CEO, Martin Gauss. In 2024, Gauss had a salary of €838,568.
On 7 April, Martin Gauss, Chairman of the Board of Latvian airline airBaltic, was dismissed.
During the shareholders’ meeting, the Ministry of Transport expressed its lack of confidence in Gauss and the Supervisory Board decided to dismiss Gauss without paying him any compensation.
The search for the next CEO of the national airline was conducted through an international competition.
