Pedestrianised Old Compton street to allow outdoor dining to comply with social distancing. Pity they couldn’t bring it back after restrictions lifted.

  1. I mean why they haven’t brought this back is beyond me. There is literally no reason to have private cars in soho, should only be deliveries but very strict times

  2. In 30 years time I don’t think anyone will be saying “ahhh those were the good old days!” Unless we have a nuclear apocalypse on our hands.

  3. Covid sucked and I hate the revisionism I’ve been seeing here and there about it… but pedestrianised soho was grand and I do miss that.

  4. Lots of fun living in that neighbourhood, there were days when you could be technically socialising by simply sticking one’s head out of the window.

  5. It was good but the Access for Wheelchair Users was compromised as the Pavements rapidly got jammed.

  6. Al fresco Soho was peak Soho. Glad it went into summer 2021 too. Shame Westminster council didn’t renew licences after 2022 tho.

  7. It’s crazy to look back at that photo and think ‘this was a better time’ despite how awful everything was at the time.

One of the coolest memories I’ll ever have is my wife and I riding Lime bikes through a completely empty Covent Garden and having a picnic in an empty Neal’s Yard. It was like we were in an alternate reality.

  8. Aside from Covid, this was a whole vibe and I feel like the last of elves who have seen the lights of Valinor knowing that this would probably not be a sight in my lifetime again

  9. They’re going to pedestrianise lots of the West End, hopefully they’ll do the same in Soho.

The Soho residents opposed the renewal of the Covid pedestrianisation street plan – so selfish of them, they chose to live in Soho but don’t like hearing people enjoying Soho’s nightlife?

  10. I don’t get why they got rid of the outside seating options, stupid decision by the council
