Vice President JD Vance is set to attend a big dollar fund-raiser on Nantucket Tuesday, an event that promises to attract well-heeled Republican donors and protesters from local activist groups.

The dinner, a fund-raiser for the Republican National Committee, will be hosted at a private residence. Attendees must pay $250,000 per couple to be on the host committee, or $100,000 per couple to attend the dinner, according to an invitation for the event.

An activist organization with an Instagram account dubbed @catsonacouch that boasts 1 million followers was slated to hold a rally called “Meowtucket” to protest Vance’s visit. The protest was scheduled for 2 p.m. at Children’s Beach.

According to Boston.com, Falmouth resident Amanda McGonigle began the Instagram account in August 2024.

“We’re going to protest JD Vance and literally everything that the man and the administration stands for,” McGonigle told Boston.com.

“There are organizations on the island that are deeply affected by this administration’s policies and funding cuts, and of course the immigrant population on the island remains unsettled,” McGonigle said.

According to the Nantucket Current, security measures are in place around Nantucket Memorial Airport.

The fund-raiser is one of several events Vance is attending this summer as part of his role as finance chair of the Republican Party. Vance’s visit to San Diego this month drew protesters outside a high-end sushi restaurant.

Vance’s last visit to Nantucket was in 2022, when he was joined by Florida Senator Rick Scott, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Herschel Walker.

In March, Vance took a ski weekend trip to Vermont that drew hundreds of protesters a day after Vance and President Trump had a tense exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during an Oval Office meeting.
