Security forces destroy homes of Baluch people – Zahedan, July 22, 2025
In a stark escalation of its repressive campaign against Iran’s Baluch ethnic groups, regime forces have conducted a coordinated assault on the lives and homes of citizens in Sistan and Baluchestan province. Over a single weekend in late July 2025, authorities targeted impoverished fuel carriers with lethal force while simultaneously deploying bulldozers to destroy family homes.
These events are not isolated incidents but rather expose a deliberate state policy aimed at crushing the Baluch community by attacking both their means of survival and their fundamental right to shelter.
Extrajudicial Killings of Fuel Carriers
On Saturday, July 20, 2025, regime forces deployed deadly violence against citizens forced into fuel carrying due to extreme poverty and state-engineered unemployment. In the city of Khash, security forces opened fire without warning, killing one Baluch fuel carrier and severely injuring another.
That same day in Rask, a separate operation by regime commando units resulted in the shooting death of another Baluch citizen and the injury of one more. These extrajudicial killings target some of the most vulnerable members of society, who undertake the dangerous work of transporting fuel simply to provide for their families in a region starved of economic opportunity.

Attack on Shelter
Concurrent with this lethal violence, the regime intensified its campaign of property destruction to instill terror and displace the local population. In the Cheshmeh Ziarat area of Zahedan, a combined force of military personnel and municipal agents descended on a residential neighborhood. In a raid conducted in the early morning hours and without any prior warning, they used bulldozers to demolish multiple Baluch homes. The operation was sweeping and destructive, destroying not only finished homes but also those under construction and even stockpiled building materials that families had purchased. Residents were left shocked and homeless; their life savings turned to rubble overnight.
These events, occurring in tandem, are not random acts of lawlessness but components of a coherent and brutal state policy.

This latest wave of state-sponsored violence continues a brutal pattern witnessed earlier this month. On July 1, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and state security forces conducted a military-style raid on the village of Gunich in Khash County, killing two women, wounding eleven others, and arresting over fifty people. The predawn attack, carried out without a court order, was met with fierce resistance from unarmed Baluch women, who have become a symbol of defiance. This recurring use of lethal force against civilian communities underscores a long-standing regime policy of suppressing the Baluch population through systematic terror.
By systematically targeting both the meager livelihoods and the physical shelters of the Baluch people, the clerical regime is waging a comprehensive war on their community’s existence. This coordinated campaign of extrajudicial killings and forced displacement constitutes a severe violation of human rights. The international community must move beyond condemnation and take concrete steps to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its systematic and violent persecution of the Baluch citizens.
