Serves them right, greedy feckers have had far too many notions lately
Because it’s shite.
The price has more than doubled since Netflix first came to Ireland and I find I’m still watching the same 10 movies and tv shows over and over again.
Only sign up every now and again to binge popular series and couldn’t believe the price of it now.
Personally think Netflix is like walking into DVD stores 15 years ago. Looks like they have loads of stuff but then when you start looking at them they’re all just filler. Awful lot of rubbish on it that you’d probably see for free on youtube.
Dipshits are blaming password sharing. People have been password sharing since Netflix first digitally streamed and it still grew QoQ. The rise of competition with better content at lower price points may have something to do with it.
It’s no surprise people are returning to piracy with the level of fragmentation in the online streaming game.
I like Netflix; I have the most basic package and there’s loads of Skandi crime shows to keep me entertained.
I can see why it loses customers though, they have made some great shows of their own but this metric of assessing them against an increase of potential customers means very few get past the 3 season mark – which is a shame.
Turns out increasing prices, while simultaneously canceling popular original shows and not renewing licenses for other popular shows means people stop subscribing.
I’m shocked. SHOCKED!
Well… not that shocked….

To be honest, there’s just too many streaming services so content is too spread out. People pick one or two to keep, and for many that’s Disney Plus and Prime Video, so Nexflix gets dropped.
The whole point of streaming was that you’d have all the shows you want on one or two platforms. Now that there’s 10 or so platforms fighting for the same content, it just makes more sense to go back to piracy.
Huge price hikes every few months, hiding extra screens and HD/4K streaming behind higher priced tiers, cancelling a multitude of very good shows far too soon, greenlighting filler shite like Is it Cake? in their place, a general drop in quality content across the board, clamping down on password sharing and the rumored basic package with ads; it’s no wonder people are leaving Netflix in favour of other platforms or pirating.
They were always going to lose some of the market share with new streaming services coming in; but most of its problems can be attributed to its own shit decision making.
Netflix’s losses are largely self inflicted.
I cancelled mine when I heard about the May price increase. They’re simply not providing enough value for money anymore.
Netflix was fantastic around 2015-2019 when they were a powerhouse of quality content. Shows like Daredevil, The Punisher, Better Call Saul and Altered Carbon were absolutely worth paying for. Only one of those shows is still running.
Netflix have an awful tendency to cancel shows after a second or third season, leaving stories at unsatisfying ends. If a show doesn’t perform exactly to their expectations it gets killed off, rather than any attempt being made to reinvigorate it and market it better.
Streaming services have to compete with each other and with piracy, whether they like it or not. Netflix no longer has the right combination of convenience and selection to drag me away from the seven seas.
was only a matter of time before the competition got their shit together and started offering a decent alternative
The market is so saturated that I’ve heard more people and especially older lads and ladies in the pubs talking about services such as Debrid, Godfather and plex to name a few for watching TV. You’d hardly hear these names out in the open, but cost of services is the foundation for people chatting publicly about such services.
I don’t blame them. I know a few people that have peaked up interest in such things because they’re fed up of having to look at subscribing to multiple services in order to watch their fav TV shows. Another one paramount+ to add to the list.
They haven’t been able to block VPN usage, how do they propose to block “password sharing”? Based on outgoing/external IP?
* If I reboot my router, I’ll get a new IP.
* If I use my phone over 4G/5G it’ll have a different IP.
* If I bring my device to my parents or travel, it’ll have a different IP.
* Apple, and others, are hiding your IP and MAC or randomising them by default too.
I don’t see a technical way for Netflix to do this, without also screwing over people who aren’t sharing passwords either.
Get woke, go broke
Cancel Netflix, even if its just a few months and try a different service. It’s crazy that they don’t include HD without forking out more. Its no longer worth.
The jig is up on Netflix, plenty off other streaming sites out there to compete with and not only that but plenty off other legal/illegal ones too to get exactly what Netflix has to offer if you know where to look.
Password sharing is not even an issue, if you pay for the basic package, you can only watch one device at a time, so if I’m watching something the person who has my password can’t watch. If you want to add devices you have to move to a higher price package, c essentially paying for the extra user.
Netflix the past while have been an absolute case study in ignoring the market whist shooting both your own feet off.
They’ve no one to blame but themselves.
And if they think they’ve lost subscribers by the tonne now wait until they see what happens if they try to restrict access for people.
Greedy cunts.
People blaming cancellation of shows as if other networks don’t do that.
It doesn’t help them that they have loads of shows that feel like they’ve the same production quality, and their movies are not worth mentioning.
Netflix used to have essentially the market cornered, it could buy the rights to stream every show and movie because there was no other streaming services. Then all the studios that were giving their movies and shows to Netflix to stream had the bright idea, why don’t we make our own streaming service? Now a heap of competition has hit the market who used to supply Netflix’s catalogue and are cheaper . I remember I got into Netflix for mindhunter and the daredevil series, well they aren’t making the first one anymore and Disney took back their catalogue for their own service, there’s a real lack of genuine quality on Netflix own produced series and films imo.
Instead of blaming password sharing which is not a new phenomenon, it’s always existed with Netflix and never stopped growth They should just face the facts.it’s not worth what they are charging and their competitors are now as good if not better while being cheaper.
They poisoned their brand with their quantity over quality shite which led to their reputation of cancelling shows without any resolution.
They’re killing themselves while the likes of Apple and Disney are starting to churn out shows people talk about.
I’m still pissed they cancelled The Dark Crystal. ☹️
Can’t wait for the inevitable digital content package release, instead of paying 20 for Netflix, 10 for Amazon video and 10 for apple TV. Just pay 34.99 a month and you get all three of these fantastic streaming services.
Thank god for piracy
With more programmes jumping ship to other platforms it’s no wonder.
They are still taking in profits in the billions each year so I don’t really see what the problem is?
Get an android TV box, download kodi and get an addon like the crew or the oath and watch pretty much anything you want without subscription. Well maybe a VPN subscription.
I miss Napster
Currently have Netflix (one screen, standard), Disney (year paid for) and Prime Video (as part of overall Prime), while the missus has NOW TV Entertainment
Then I look at my brother, who uses an IPTV for €55 a year – something I’ll be doing fairly soon
I subscribed shortly after launch and I remember the buzz for the first few years as people started discovering all these new series for just over a €5 a month and with a free chrome extension you could get access to the US library.
But the last two years new content worth watching is in short supply.
Cancelled last month after using it since 2012. Does anyone know why we don’t have HBO max here?
I’m half tempted to cancel myself because as much as it’s own branded shows can be good, they’ve never had anything I’ve searched for, even killing eve… I seem to be getting more entertainment from coronation Street than Netflix the past few weeks!
Was about to cancel it myself but then learned sky do it as an add on for like €6.
They even transfer over the accounts using a link. Great stuff altogether
Who fucked up by trying to crack down on their paying customers? HA!
>Netflix said for the first time that it was open to the idea of offering lower-priced subscriptions with advertising.
Well… if they are absolutely dead set on people returning to torrenting in a big way I suppose…
