Unless you are part of the Jeep or Cadillac crowds who are there for the image, any American car will be too wide to drive conveniently in most Japanese locations, and the vast majority of buyers will immediately reject what’s available because it’s not what they need or want. Japan makes wider cars to sell in the United States, but the US doesn’t make narrower cars for Japan. Automotive option content in Japan is on another level than the US, and American automakers don’t even have the marketing research to start competing. When you buy rice in Japan, you know exactly what you’re getting. Rice from the US doesn’t have that kind of quality control or logistical specificity. You can already find US rice cheaper and nobody wants it. You can’t count on quality, texture, taste, or consistency.
