I’m from North Belfast and have the Cavehill and Waterworks on my doorstep, both great parks for dog walking and walking etc.. What are your favourite spots in Belfast? Lady Dixon is good but pain in the arse to get to.

  1. Castlewellan, good wee variety of trails, round the lake, the garden and up around the wee smaller ponds and tower is really nice, used to be great to swim the dog in but it’s had the algae.

Not that far from the car park they’ve got a Giant Sequoia/redwood which is a really cool tree and previous winner of tree of the year 🤓

  2. Love the Cave Hill, many happy hours spent up there

  3. falls park is lovely for a walk on weekdays when schools are in so there aren’t any cunts about.

  4. I love cavehill and the waterworks too (that backdrop over the water with cavehill is stunning!), but there can be an unnecessary level of ‘wee skitters’ in around the waterworks at times that has had me say to my younger children “aight thats it, lets head on”. It’s more in the evening tbf, and I’ve never had any bother either, but its a shame all the same.

  5. Fuck me I need my eyes checked again. I thought that was a man fishing in a boat and a dog on a board…

  6. Cavehill clear winner for me, then Hazelbank both close to my place.

  7. For me it’s Antrim Castle Gardens, even though it’s a drive up the motorway. Nice walks through the wood, feed the squirrels, walk along the river spotting herons and kingfishers, then you’re on the shore of enormous Lough Neagh with Reyes Wood a bit further if you want to continue. Plus 2 coffee shops! Just don’t go in a Saturday morning with the park runners then football going on.

  8. Tollymore definitely is one of the best, such a variety of terrain to explore. Honourable mention for me would be Clare Glen, great spot to cycle or walk round, has similar Tollymore vibezzzz.

  9. Okay I’m biased  I grew up on waterworks doorstep and adore the view….but moving to newtownabbey….well it’s a bit shit ….

Cavehill country park. Hazelbank  v36 stormount and the people’s park Ballymena are all million times better in terms of everything   delmont  the gruffalo trail castlewellen Hillsborough tollymore….heck even the grove and lower Alexandra are all superior

  10. Not in Belfast, but I love the 20 mile linear park that is the Newry to Portadown towpath.

  11. Cavehill, Cregagh Glen (it’s very linear but it’s exceptionally chill and very easy to get to), Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor, Glenveagh in Donegal, and Dalkey Hill in Dublin. Killarney National Park is also a good spot.
