July the 23rd, 2025 – Summer in Zagreb doesn’t mean a deserted city as everyone evacuates for the coast, it can also mean dancing at Zrinjevac park during what is arguably the best time to be here.
The Croatian capital is a fascinating city at whatever time of year you happen to visit it. Spring is characterised by the gorgeous blossom at King Tomislav Square and the city’s many green spaces transforming into a new shade of light green. Autumn is when the Croatian National Theatre comes back to life after its summer pause. It’s when the leaves on Medvednica all begin to change and thick fog cloaks the city beneath it.
Winter? You guessed it – Advent in Zagreb. The three-time award winning festive event wraps the city in the Christmas spirit and the aroma of fritule and hot dogs hangs in the cold air. Summer is the season in Zagreb that has had the least attention paid to it by far.
summer in zagreb is worth sticking around for
Historically speaking, summer in Zagreb meant that the capital turned into a ghost town. The residents abandoned it for the coast and the islands, and visitors to Croatia were only anywhere near Zagreb because of the airport. The Croatian capital has made such a strong name for itself in a relatively short period of time on the tourism map of Europe, and now summer, the season where people tend to focus on the Adriatic, is taking on a life of its own, too.
In a city that has become famous for its festivals and events spanning everything from folklore to theatre to music and food, it only makes sense to throw in a bit of dance, too.
fancy a dance party at zrinjevac park?
Zrinjevac Park is an ideal location for, well, just about anything if we’re being frank. Centrally located, this beautiful green space in the very heart of the city is a lure for everyone. A stone’s throw from all the goings on, the bars, restaurants and more, it’s a natural oasis within a concrete jungle. In the summer, the dense canopies above the park provide plentiful shade, and the natural surroundings provide inspiration to move around.
Turning the clock back to the 1950s, 60s and 70s, dancing was one of the top pass times for Zagreb’s residents. Many generations grew up keeping up with all kinds of global dance trends, enjoying the rhythm of the most popular pop, rock, jazz and swing hits. The Dance Party at Zrinjevac intends not only to revive the city during the hottest time of year, but also breathe life back into the spirit of Zagreb’s beloved dance parties.
from 1891 to the modern day…
Those who fancy dancing at Zrinjevac Park this summer will be able to do so around the Music Pavilion. Back in 1891, it became a place known for organising popular promenade concerts. There will be swing and rock’n’roll, Charleston jive, salsa and the ever-passionate tango.
