Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne dies at 76 • FRANCE 24 English

[Music] A pioneer of heavy metal music, he became notorious for his outrageous antics on stage, including once biting the head off a bat. Thank you for coming. Thank you for Oussie Osborne was born in Birmingham in 1948 to working-class parents. Wonderful. feeling. After leaving school, he undertook a string of manual jobs before trying his hand at burglary, a move that landed him a stint behind bars. It was in the late 1960s that Osborne made the switch to music, joining the Birmingham based band that would later become Black Sabbath. He had little musical experience, but believes that this contributed to the group’s success. We won a creation by some mogul who said, “Oh, we get a guy from Glasgow this guy and whatever.” We were four guys from local guys from Aston in Birmingham who had a go and we got successful and that that’s that’s something you can’t buy. That’s especially nowadays, you know. In 1970, Black Sabbath’s aonomous debut album rocketed into the UK top 10. It laid the groundwork for a series of hits, including their most well-known song, Paranoid. The band did not shy away from heavy subject matter from depression to conflict to apocalypse and Osborne regularly came under fire from religious and conservative groups. Sacked from Black Sabbath for drug and alcohol abuse, Osborne released a solo album before rejoining the group in 1997. He would garner three Grammys over the course of his career. In 2002, his career took another turn as he became a TV star in the reality show The Osbors that followed the aging musician and his family. He continued to perform until as recently as July the 5th this year at the concert that would be his last. Osborne died on Tuesday at the age of 76. No cause of death was specified, but he had suffered from Parkinson’s disease for several years. [Music]
