Greece’s women’s national water polo team is set to play in the final of the World Aquatics Championships on Wednesday afternoon, facing off against Hungary in what promises to be a high-stakes rematch between two familiar rivals.

The final is scheduled to begin at 16:35 local time and will be broadcast live on Greek public television channel ERT1.

This marks another milestone for the Greek team, led by coach Charis Pavlidis, as it has already secured its 14th medal in a major international tournament. The players are now aiming for the gold, hoping to repeat their historic 2011 victory, when they claimed the world title in Shanghai.

Greece and Hungary have already met earlier in this tournament, facing each other in the group stage opener. Hungary came out on top in that tight match, winning 10–9. However, Greece had the upper hand in their most recent meeting, defeating Hungary 13–9 in the World Cup final held in Chengdu, China, on April 20, 2025.

That victory brought Greece the World Cup title and set the stage for yet another clash between two of the sport’s most competitive national teams.
