In the first round, the competition committee evaluated the submitted documents and the candidates’ compliance with the mandatory requirements. In total, the competition is being held in three rounds.
In the second round of the competition, the candidates will explain to the selection committee their motivation for taking up this position, answer the questions posed by the committee, and present their vision to promote proper commercial competition in Latvia.
In the third round of the competition, the candidates’ management competencies will be assessed: strategic vision, orientation towards achieving results, ability to make decisions and assume responsibility, change management, and team leadership.
At the end of the competition, the applicant or applicants with the highest score will be recommended to the Minister of Economy – though there is no obligation for the minister to then in turn forward the competition winner for approval by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Upon assuming office, the Chairman of the Competition Commission will receive a monthly salary of 4,883 euros before taxes, as well as the opportunity to promote the development of free and fair competition in the Latvian economy through his or her work, as well as to represent Latvia at the international level and to work in the European Competition Authority Network and the International Competition Authority Network .
The evaluation commission for the competition is headed by Raivis Kronbergs, Director of the State Chancellery. The commission is composed of Raivis Bremšmits, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics, Acting State Secretary, Edijs Šaicāns, Andra Feldmane, Advisor to the Latvian Union of Local Governments in the field of entrepreneurship, and Jānis Lielpēteris, Member of the Board of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. An independent observer will also participate in the evaluation process of the applicants: Kaspars Gorkšs, Director General of the Latvian Employers’ Confederation.
