Fireworks, warplanes and axes: France celebrates Bastille Day • FRANCE 24 English

Under Paris’s Arctic triumph, President Emanuel Maccron marked one of France’s biggest holidays with a tribute to the tomb of an unknown soldier, the national anthem, and a parade of military might, and red, blue, and white stripes in the skies. It is July 14th commemorating the famous day in 1789 when Parisians stormed the Bastile and triggered the French Revolution. Today it has become a celebration of liberty, equality, and fraternity and later fireworks. We’re from Naples. We’ve been coming here for 10 years. It’s been great. We come here for the parade, then for the fireworks. It’s impressive. Lots of big vehicles. It makes you dream. I’ve never been to a parade before. This year, 450 Indonesian troops made their debut as the country of honor. With President Pauo Cubanto proudly seated alongside the French president throughout the festivities. In total, some 7,000 people took part in the parade and France showed off its armed forces with heavy helmets, armored vehicles, and Raphael jets. Monday also marked 100 years of the blue at Def France Cornflower, a symbol of remembrance and solidarity with veterans and victims of war. [Music]

Swooping warplanes, axe-carrying warriors, a drone light show over the Eiffel Tower and fireworks in nearly every French town… France is celebrating its national holiday Monday with 7,000 people marching, on horseback or riding armored vehicles along the cobblestones of the Champs-Elysees, the most iconic avenue in Paris.
