Parklets in Irish towns

  1. Has anyone else seen these around and what do people think? Personally I like the idea of better public seating areas but there are better ways to spend €30k which could accommodate more.

I don’t even know how to get involved in official discussions around such things.

  2. >It’s always the same people moaning; it means you’re doing the right thing if they are moaning

Hot take there from Cllr Fintan Brett.

Clearly he has a novel opinion on public feedback and review of how he’s doing his job.

  3. my thoughts on these are generally that they seem great in a country with a nice climate, which we don’t have. I pass this one daily on my way to and from work and genuinely have only seen someone sitting in it once. Sure it will be used more when the weather is nicer but we have rain over 200 days a year so it just seems like resources could be used elsewhere.

  4. Drive past the “dangerous” one in Naas almost everyday, while probably not the best spot, it does slightly infringe into the road space but no more that a wide van or SUV would if they were parked there. So many people moaning over losing parking spaces when there are multiple half empty car parks less than 5 minute walk from the Main Street. Main Street parking should be prioritised to disabled, age friendly and parent and child spaces.
I think more outdoor and green spaces should be allocated to community areas and make the area overall nicer and more amenable to all.

  5. Derry has one in the Diamond (the “square”) and the council cleverly managed to put it on front of the E.V charging point so it can’t be used now!
