  1. Good on him to get his civil duty done before falling out of a window.

  2. Tarasenko’s votes were likely submitted by State Duma colleagues who had possession of his voting card, as has happened in other instances of deputies incurring illness in the past, BBC News Russian said.

  3. Obviously he should be investigated, and severely punished if found guilty.

  4. That’s all? No wonder he fell out of an open window..

  5. Voting card? Those things should come with a PIN, 2FA, his pet’s name, and biometrics from a beating heart as a security measure.

  6. wasnt there same stories about lawmaking voting in US? that some have special sticks to reach to empty desk to press voting button?

  7. He held on the edge of the window as long as he could to serve “the public”, fell only after he made all the right votes happen.

  8. It is pretty common around the world to give voting cards/keys to others so you wouldn’t be bothered by responsibility.

  9. Putin once made 3 public appearances across vast distances, within 10 minutes.

  10. remember when those of us in the us used to laugh at this level of shameless undercutting of democracy?

  11. maybe he was also using an autopen – like other leaders?

  12. Probably why the DOJ is wanting to collect voting data from the election. I am sure there are similar shenanigans afoot in the state.

  13. I know it’s not the same thing, but Konstantin Chernenko, the USSR’s gravely ill General Secretary, was practically dragged from his hospital bed to vote (for himself) in the 1985 Russian Supreme Soviet elections.

Supposedly, the “polling station” he visited was just an empty part of the hospital that had been prettied up with a few curtains and a ballot box. His reappearance after a prolonged hospital stay was widely reported in the West, and images of this visibly decrepit old man were broadcast on every news station.

Chernenko (who spent most of his 13 months in the top spot basically decaying while others affixed his signature to things) received 100% of the votes and died less than 2 weeks later.

An influential Politburo member named Viktor Grishin had allegedly arranged the whole exercise to emphasize his closeness to Chernenko, and there were suggestions that he intended to put himself forward as a candidate for the next General Secretary if the Central Committee still wouldn’t commit to Mikhail Gorbachev. Instead, his stunt backfired and was seen as cruel.

In the end, Gorbachev was appointed virtually unopposed, and Grishin was so humbled after his miscalculation that he even declined the offer to oversee Chernenko’s funeral.

Not quite sure where I was going with that, but the news coming out of Russia frequently has me wondering what decade it is.

    History is fascinating (and appalling).

  14. Russia – the America DJT is working towards. Corruption is the goal.

  15. What a patriot and overall great guy, not letting death interfere with his civic duty!

  16. Wait, russia is corrupt? Did billy-bob whatever and his family that moved there know about this?
