District Line to Wimbledon ‘not fit for purpose’ after years of disruption, warns MP

  1. The district line is the worst line in London change my mind.

  2. I ended up passing on a really good flat recently because it only had a District connection nearby and it’s simply too unreliable. It’s absolutely mental to be having to make these sorts of decisions in a city like this.

  3. Wild cause I thought it was one of the best lines when I lived in Putney a few years ago, how has it changed so drastically?

  4. Ahhh, I remember the (good) old days of turning up at Earl’s Court to an overcrowded platform and thinking “yep, the Wimbledon branch hasn’t arrived for a while then”.

  5. Wimbledon is fine. Lived there for a few years. It’s fine.

  6. District line is actually mental. You can go from Upminister all the way to Richmond/Wimbledon. It will take bloody ages but it can be done.

  7. Messed me up 2 weeks ago, it went down when I was on my way to the tennis.

  8. Wow if the Wimbledon line isn’t fit for purpose what does that make the Richmond line

  9. The signal issue at Parsons Green/East Putney has been going for as long as I can remember.

  10. TfL Line maintained by Network Rail.

Network Rail are the ones doing a terrible job, look at Waterloo this past week.

Imo the branch should be handed over to TfL to officially manage and maintain, now that SWR is no longer privately owned.

  11. Meanwhile the Richmond branch seems to go down every other weekend.

  12. Sir Saddiq has begged the Treasury for the money to fix the problems with the London Underground. The funds he did receive from them came with numerous strings attached to it, including being forced to raise fares significantly year on year above inflation. This Labour government has bought into the hard right anti London narrative that started when Boris Johnson became PM. Other European countries happily subsidise their rail networks, especially in their capital cities.

  13. The Wimbleware line should be separated from the rest of the District Line.
