As porn sites apply new age checks, will users hand over personal ID?

2. I’d be surprised if the number handing over their ID reaches 10%. The ways around it are simple enough. There will be groups of kids in play grounds up and down the land learning about VPNs from each other by the end of the week.

3. For research purposes only, Ive just visited pornhub and thats not asked for an ID check yet.

4. I think a fair amount of people will be fine with this. Most people aren’t Redditors and aren’t as bothered about privacy as people here might think.

5. I tried to go on r/combatfootage yesterday and it wanted my pic. Don’t think watching a bit of drone on drone is worth it.

6. Its the internet.

   If one website asks for ID, another will not. They’ll go there instead. By definition it will likely be less regulated and show more extreme content than the mainstream sites.

7. Already using a vpn for Reddit since they rolled out the changes here (it’s not just porn either it seems to affect any post that says nsfw)

8. Reddit already asks id for mature content that includes some memes videos of war or even news articles. So got vpn.

9. I’m curious how if it will affect participation in dating apps, gay dating apps in particular. I can’t imagine many people willingly handing over mugshot, ID and their sexual orientation to a private American company. 

10. Some might but the funny thing is you can bypass this by literally just googling “UK driving licence” and using a picture of someone holding their ID.

12. Opera GX has a built in free VPN and are a Norse based company.

13. 10 minutes of googling and trying pictures of drivers licences…. And I’m now a 20 year old white woman from Kent.
    If I can do it in 10, a 14 year old with the drive to see some tits is doing it in less.
    What an absolute joke
