As Bloomberg writes, citing Estonian officials
Estonian officials have reported that Russia is increasing its electronic warfare (EW) systems near the border with Estonia. This information was released by Bloomberg, citing Estonian authorities.
Estonia’s Minister of the Interior, Igor Taro, noted that Russian military forces have deployed additional equipment for “signal jamming” in the area of Kingisepp, located about 20 kilometers from the Estonian border.
Taro also emphasized that the Estonian Internal Security Service has already “been in contact with Russian military regarding further developments.”
According to Bloomberg, Russia actively uses EW systems in the war in Ukraine, particularly to “suppress” drone navigation signals. However, the operation of such systems also disrupts the global positioning system (GPS), which is crucial for civilian aircraft and ships.
The Baltic countries have expressed concern over the increasing incidents of GPS jamming in the region, a phenomenon that has become more frequent since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
