U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) predicted quick and final action from the Trump administration on permanently locating U.S. Space Command to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville after meeting with the president and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

For years, Alabama’s congressional members have pushed for Space Command to set up shop in Huntsville, after the Biden administration rejected military recommendations and instead selected a location in Colorado.

On Thursday, Tuberville stated that he predicted the final decision “very soon” after hours of meetings with Trump and Hegseth

“This week, I’ve spent several hours on the phone and several hours in the Oval Office with President Trump and Secretary Hegseth talking about the future of Space Command; not if, but when it happens, and that will be soon,” Tuberville said. “We want to make sure it’s done the right way. We know the best place for U.S. Space Command is behind the fence at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. That hasn’t changed in four years through countless investigations [and] reports, and it certainly hasn’t changed in the last 48 hours. It’s going to save the American taxpayers at least half a billion dollars.”

“More importantly, they will receive a more lethal, effective and secure Space Command when it’s behind the fence at Redstone Arsenal. So, I’m confident we’ll get this done very soon. The state of Alabama, the city of Huntsville, and Madison County have already done their detailed coordination. They are ready. Again, not if, but when. We’re excited to seal the deal once and for all,” he added.

In January 2021, the Secretary of the Air Force designated the Redstone Arsenal site in Huntsville as the top choice for the Space Command headquarters. The recommendation for the site was then affirmed by the Inspector General’s Office and the GAO, both of which found that the Air Force had conducted an accurate analysis and Huntsville was the superior location.

However, on July 31, 2023, then-President Joe Biden reversed the decision to locate Space Command in Huntsville and instead selected a location in Colorado.
