US revokes visas of Brazilian judges over Bolsonaro ‘witch-hunt’ • FRANCE 24 English

A raid on the home of the former Brazilian president, Ya Balsinaro. Federal police searched his house in Brazilia after the Supreme Court issued search warrants and restraining orders. Police found 14,000 US in cash. Balsinaro was subsequently ordered to wear an ankle monitor to stop him from fleeing the country. The suspicion is an exaggeration. Bolsaro is awaiting a verdict in his trial on charges of plotting a coup to overturn Luis Inasio Lula D Silva’s victory in Brazil’s 2022 election. Aside electronic monitoring, he’s banned from contacting foreign officials using social media, approaching embassies, and speaking to his son in Washington. He denies considering fleeing. Supreme Court Justice Alesandri de Morice cited a concrete possibility he would do so. He accuses Bossinaro of colluding with the US President Donald Trump. On Thursday, Trump shared a letter he sent to Balsinaro saying, “I have seen the terrible treatment you’re receiving at the hands of an unjust system turned against you. This trial should end immediately.” Trump announced last week that she would impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods from the 1st of August, directly tying that decision to Bossinaro’s trial. Lula Dilva said that was unacceptable blackmail. A source at Brazil’s Supreme Court says some justices have already made it clear among themselves that US tariffs will have no effect. Bossara’s trial is to resume between August and September. He denies any wrongdoing.

Bolsonaro thinks everyone is as dumb and naive as the flock of USA and Israel flags-waving Brazilians that follows him. 1st his son goes to the USA, receiving 2 million reais for that, and proudly and publicly claims he is negotiating sanctions and tariffs against Brazil to harm the Brazilian government and, using the people and their economy as hostages, pressure it to ensure full impunity to Bolsonaro. Then the totally ideological and partisan tariffs and sanctions come. Bolsonaristas celebrate, Bolsonaro thanks Trump for those actions, and after the huge uproar of most Brazilians Bolsonaro claims that he can negotiate and convince Trump to step back… as long as his passport is returned to him so he can go personally to the USA (ruled by a man that is literally attacking Brazil on multiple fronts to protect Bolsonaro). Then Trump issues personal punishments against the judges of the Brazilian Supreme Court – precisely those that will judge Bolsonaro soon. Could he be any more obvious and unashamed in his intent to flee and to threaten the Justice system into submission to the Far Right? The USA should be ashamed and globally disparaged for such a shameless conspiracy and imperialisfic intervention.
