Newcastle United are having to prepare for a scenario that sees their biggest star, Alexander Isak, leave the club this summer.

As bad as it will be losing our star man, we will recover in time. Top players come and go, but the club remains, and it’s the club we love; the players are a side dish.

What would really annoy fans, though, is if we have another Andy Carroll situation – selling our top player to a rival club on deadline day with no time to bring in a replacement.

Newcastle have found it very hard to bring in a top striker this summer, thanks in large part to PSR, but there’s also a feeling that no striker of the calibre we were looking at would want to come to the club to play second-fiddle to Isak, which is understandable.

Just go get Benjamin Sesko and deal with Alexander Isak in time (like it’s that easy)

Newcastle United have a target in mind if Alexander Isak is sold

Selling Isak for £130 million plus solves both of those problems. That kind of fee will blow the doors off our PSR worries, and with no star striker to compete with, a top forward would seriously consider a move.

A report in the iPaper today mentions Benjamin Sesko as a potential replacement for Isak, which is what we’ve been saying all day.

Sesko is 22 years old and already has bags of experience. His play style suits Newcastle’s down to the ground, and RB Leipzig have already shown their hand when it comes to an asking price.

Arsenal opted to move for Viktor Gyokeres after finding out RB Leipzig’s valuation of Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal tried to sign the Slovenian earlier in the window but refused to match Leipzig’s £69 million asking price. With the Isak money, Newcastle should have no trouble matching that, and because it’s already been out there, Leipzig would find it hard to justify asking for more.

Wages won’t be an issue either, given the Isak money, although this is where things would get tricky as Sesko’s people will be very aware that the Magpies have money all of a sudden.

It could be worth moving early for Sesko to ensure we have him in place for whatever happens with Isak. Even if Isak stays at the club, there’ll be ample opportunity for Sesko to get minutes, especially if a minor thigh injury that doesn’t even show up on a scan can keep him out of a pre-season tour!
