  1. USCG says he was 65 yards on this side of the border.

This is petty and spiteful. Not the USCG I know. There is no honor in this detainment based on current information.

  2. So the US Coast Guard illegally detained a Canadian, in Canadian waters, illegally crossing our border to do so. They rammed his boat to capsize it after he asserted his rights.

What a nice neighbouring ally we have /s

They claim they were slightly over the border but at this point it’s hard to trust US sources and the response was way overblown. Either way it’s not a good look for the USCG. We should investigate this independently to confirm what actually happened and where

Edit: The USCG claim he was 65 yards over the border. Taking into account the commercial GPS that he’d have had (if he did) and the margins of error with those systems, and currents, etc., 65 yards is nothing. One could easily drift that distance without knowing. So even if they can prove this, the response is insane and more akin to how the Chinese coast guard reacts in the “south China sea”

  3. They probably thought he was delivering fentanyl, or were going to add it to their unimaginable statistics..

  4. I’m gonna call Trey Parker and Matt Stone, we’re gonna have a whole new South Park US-Canada war over this =D

  5. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my Canadian friends and the time I’ve spent in Canada it’s you do NOT want a Québequois fisherman angry at you.

  6. I really thought 20 years ago that Bush would be the highest point of national embarrassment.

I wonder who’s going to be in power 20 years from now

  7. The fact that he even said they tried to “push him into the US” means he knows he was on the border. However looking at his boat, he likely had no clue where he actually was.

  8. I live on Vancouver Island and the ferry has to cross us water each trip because I live south of the 49th. I can’t wait for them to start harassing the ferries

  9. The USCG and Canadian fisherman have been bitter towards each other for a while. Just like the USCG and U.S. fisherman, or the USCG and pleasure craft, or the USCG and The USCG

  10. Need footage of the encounter to come to a conclusion.

  11. They should be investigated for illegally crossing into Canada and kidnapping a Canadian citizen.

  12. That is such shame. We as Canadians must protect ourselves from the USA and its aggression towards us. I hope he sues the USA and wins

  13. I grew up on a border town. The other side of the river was a town the same size. We used to bike back and forth as if it was all one town. It really was like one town. 911 fucking changed that.

Now I don’t even want to go to the states for anything. What are yahs doing down there

  14. What’s the charge?! Trying to enjoy a meal…. a succulent, Canadian meal?!

  15. A handheld GPS could have prevented this incident.

  16. America is sick, broken and has hateful, low intelligence Nazis in charge everywhere now.
.F’k america. Nasty, foolish people and an army of dupe followers.

  17. Not going to lie this could be 50/50 knowing how rude French Canadians can be

  18. Why comply? Foreign agents on this side of the border are mere tourists being assholes with zero authority.
