Good shout. Remember the riots after funding was pulled for all the London youth clubs? And youth crime alhas only risen since then.
Good – well run youth centres and schemes would be a huge help for integrating communities and lowering crime
London mayor boosts extra curriculum activities to help young disadvantaged.
I know it’s anecdotal but I personally got a lot of support and positive adult role models from teenage youth clubs/activities growing in London in the 80/90s. I think it’s a real shame how rare they are now and how much kids are mostly learning social behaviour from other kids.
Well this seems pointless.
There’s ample things to do for young people in this City
More so than any other area in the UK…
6million
That will barely pay for a few cronies to pocket before it actually gets to any “yoof” who might be interested or impacted by such spend.
Try 60million
Look, I know it must be difficult being a kid. Not a lot of schemes.
But I’m not the borough, I wish I was.
PS5 for everyone
Is he taking 100 of them to the cinema and buying them all popcorn and a drink?
Wow, 6 million, what a nice guy. Maybe we can buy some penny sweets
The amount of free/cheap stuff for young people to do nowadays is abysmal. Legacy in Croydon is one of the few shining examples of a great place that offers genuinely amazing facilities to young people. 6 mil is laughable though.
Fifty are still young damn it
Don’t get me wrong it’s the thought that counts but 6 million is not at lot at all, doubt he’d manage to make any visible change with it
Almost run over yesterday in London by youth on a Lime bike that was clicking very loudly as it sped by me on the pavement.
They’ve already got (stolen Lime) bikes and football and all the things that Gen X had.
6 mil doesn’t seem a lot of money, but maybe this could fund legitimate Lime passes so they’re not making a hobby of petty crime, and education for parents to get kids off screens.
Bringing back youth centres is a good thing, people are fast to shout at Kharn about gangs and yet we have a solution that can help get the kids into a better environment that they can make friends for life in. The UK has a loneliness epidemic. I should know as someone who has been through it myself. This generation has been through so much isolation with the lockdowns and covid I think bringing these back is a sensible plan. Educate, Develop, Enrich the next generation so we can build a better society.
How kind. Meanwhile the London Borough of Hillingdon are closing the already established + valuable Rural Garden Centre in West Drayton for the sake of saving c.£100k a year.
Vulnerable adults + youngsters with learning difficulties that will have one less safe space where they can socialise, and use their skills.

4 million will be spent on a bike shelter concept
That’s actually not enough probably
