Mick Wallace and Clare Daly’s presence in Russian/Chinese/Arabic media : a Twitter thread by Irish Times journalist Naomi O’Leary
A year ago I began wondering: what happens in Syrian media when Mick Wallace and Clare Daly speak in support of viewpoints held by the Assad regime?
I set up an alert for their names when used in Arabic, Russian and Chinese.

I realise this is a few days old, but I couldn’t find it here. I’ll delete it if it’s a re-post. Thought it gives an interesting look at the impact Daly and Wallace have in (mostly) non-Western media, that I hadn’t really heard of before.

I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with a word either of them have ever said, but the palpable desperation by the media to delegitimise anything which doesn’t agree with the establishment view of the world is petty scary.
We get it. The likes of the Irish Times and RTÉ would like nothing better than copying and pasting Ivana and Helen into every council, Dáil, Seanad and European Parliament seat in the country. Nice, liberal, middle class journalists all agreeing with nice, liberal, middle class talking politicians in nice, liberal, middle class drawing rooms in Portobello.
So what’s the story here, are they on Vlad’s payroll?
Wallace looks like someone ordered Brian May on Wish.com…
She’s getting some heat from tankies in the Twitter thread.
I didn’t realise it was quite this bad. I thought they were just clowns. It looks a lot more sinister now.
“Golden Lion King” what a nickname
This is a bit sad because I used to kind of admire both of them. WAllace was excellent on that scandal with the cops and he spoke truth to power elsewhere too. Daly was a really competent parliamentarian, in the right party you’d have tipped her for high office.
Now theyre both a kind of weird clown show with stupid ideas about things they really should know more about
