The start of the school year is almost upon us, with college students around the globe preparing for the start of a new semester, and this year, there’s a royal among their ranks. Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, the granddaughter of King Harald and daughter of Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit, revealed on the royal family’s official Instagram account this week that she has moved to Australia in preparation for the start of her program at the University of Sydney.
“I’m looking forward to starting my studies at the University of Sydney,” the princess shared in a caption on a series of photos of her in her new home. The caption continued, “It will be exciting to become a student, and I’m looking forward to gaining new perspectives on both European and international politics. I’m sure that I will learn a lot.”
Ingrid Alexandra, who is second in line to the throne, is carrying on something of a family tradition by studying abroad. Her grandfather, King Harald, studied at Balliol College at the University of Oxford in the UK during his student days (possibly in a nod to his family’s close ties with the British royals—he was a second cousin to the late Queen Elizabeth II) while her father, Crown Prince Haakon, matriculated at both the University of California, Berkeley, and the London School of Economics.
The princess, who completed 15 months of military training with Norway’s Engineer Battalion after finishing high school in 2023, will reportedly live in student housing on campus.
