The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced with great fanfare, back in August 2023, that they were producing a film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s hit romance novel, “Meet Me at the Lake” for the streamer.

But we’re told Archewell productions has yet to hire a director or come anywhere close to picking a cast.

“By this point, you would have thought they would have got a director on board and a cast. So what is the delay?” asked a Hollywood source. “And when you make something for Netflix, it takes a long time for it to actually hit the streamer — there is so much to do in post production, to make sure it’s ready for every country. If the deal is up this year, then when is this film going to be made?”

The couple were also working on a documentary set in Africa — albeit without Harry, 40, or Markle, 43, appearing. This, too, may be on the back burner.

“What’s the betting that neither of these projects will see the light of day?” said a source in the know.

  1. Man, someone from their production team is leaking like mad this week, eh? First the Netflix cancellation and now this.

  2. They published this exact same story about everything Harry and Meghan have ever done. Firt it was there Netflix doc, then Harry’s memoir, then Meghan’s show then Meghan’s brand…..it’s wild watching them spin the end of a 5 year contract as a cancellation. Harry and Meghan signed a 5 year contract that began in 2020. 5 plus 2020 is 2025. Contracts come to and end but apparently when it comes to them it becomes some kind of massive scandal. What’s even crazy is how gullible people automatically swallow the tabloid narrative.

  3. Loved that book. I hadn’t heard they were producing it. Hope the project goes to someone else.

  4. It would have been lovely to see them succeed but they are a bit hopeless

  5. Yeah this project has seemed pretty dead in the water for a while now. Pun 100% intended.

  6. Project is in pre=production phase. This is NOT news. Its not even gossip. This is an article for people who understand NOTHING, I mean ZILCH, about filming, packaged to look as if it is gossip.

The film rights were purchased in August 2023. There was NO script, just the rights to produce a film based on the book. To have it at the filming stage with a confirmed cast would be a quick turn around. I mean its possible if you throw all your energies and resources at it, but it would be a very quick turnaround if you want to make more than a stream to TV movie.

  7. Honestly this kind of “gossip” is crazy and just outlines why they should NEVER return to living in the UK and stay as far away as possible.

We have had a number of real scandals lately like Princess Anne criticising Prince William for not doing investitures. And continuing evidence of the Royals ties with leaders in the Middle East that could prove a risk to national security. And King Charles having a rapid turnover of staff with allegations of low pay and bullying. But instead the “gossip” is focussed on…oh noes, Harry and Meghan were going to make a movie and it has not yet been made. Seriously, who cares?

  8. Making a film requires competence and, well…that’s not their brand these days.

  9. Never read the book. It doesn’t seem like a very hard movie. Not a period drama, no need for lots of SFX.
M&H have so many contacts in the industry who can help. Tyler Perry, isn’t Reese Witherspoon their friend? People who worked on Suits.

I had to google the name of the person they hired.
What is Ben Browning doing? How does an Oscar and Emmy worthy producer not be able to tackle this elevated Lifestyle flick? I hope he’s taking this time to bring amazing POC screen writers.

Hey, maybe they can tap Nia da Costa to direct.

  10. They are just all over the place with their ventures. I don’t get it.

  11. The only solution is for Makle to direct it herself. Duh.
