US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the Department of State on Friday.
A video shared by news agency ANI showed Rubio and Dar shaking hands and posing for the media at the Department of State.
According to Arab News, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry claimed that Rubio acknowledged Pakistan’s “everlasting sacrifices in the war on terror”.
As per the report, Dar is on an eight-day visit to the United States during which he chaired several United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meetings under Pakistan’s rotating presidency this month.
Last month, US President Donald Trump, in a high-stakes diplomatic manoeuvre, hosted Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshall Asim Munir for a closed-door lunch at the White House.
During the meet, Trump had said that he was “honoured” to meet Munir weeks after India and Pakistan were locked in a four-day military conflict.
“The reason I had him here was because I wanted to thank him for ending the India-Pakistan war. Prime Minister Modi just left a little while ago, and we are working on a trade deal with India, with Pakistan. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi and Munir are two very smart people who decided not to keep going with that war,” Trump had said.
“I was honoured to meet Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir today,” Trump had told reporters.
