I always feel a serious injury to a goalkeeper in hurling is inevitable. A shot to the throat and you’d be done I think.
Don’t know how they do it. They must be fearless. And I’m always surprised how few times a sliotar will actually hit the body of a goalkeeper. Imagine a full power shot into the legs or chest. Even worse before helmets.
RIP. Terribly sad. A 13-year old died last November after being hit by a sliotar.
The circumstances of these cases probably need to be made as clear as possible to ensure people are aware of the rare/unlucky dangers.
